“The animals that we live with enrich our lives in many ways. They connect us to the world of all living beings, remind us how to play, and show us how to love and trust with our whole hearts. In return, it is our responsibility to be their guardian and to care for them with kindness and love.” – Grand Avenue Veterinary Center
Grand Avenue Veterinary Center is located in St. Paul in a beautiful, historic Victorian house on Grand Ave. You’ll notice the home-like atmosphere from the moment you walk through the door, and so will your pet.
This animal hospital opened in 1985 and is owned by Dr. Ann Brownlee and Dr. Heather Taylor. They see both cats and dogs and are a fear-free certified clinic, as well as AAHA-accredited. In addition to regular wellness care, Grand Avenue Veterinary Center also offers acupuncture and laser therapy.
Meet Dr. Ann Brownlee, one of the owners of Grand Avenue Veterinary Center! A typical day could find Dr. Brownlee performing surgery and dental procedures or seeing pets for a host of reasons – from analyzing a brand new puppy’s diet to assessing chronic diseases in a beloved cat. As clinic owner and veterinarian, Dr. Brownlee is proud to be connected to “such a dedicated staff, such an amazing clientele, and such spirited animals.”
Dr. Heather Taylor started working at Grand Avenue Veterinary Center in 1996. She became an owner in 2015. “It is a special thing to care for a patient its entire life, and I treasure that.” She loves getting to know her clients and feels blessed to have developed many meaningful relationships over the years. Dr. Taylor has a special interest in feline medicine and behavior and also enjoys surgery and dentistry.
Dr. Jen Seidl has been at Grand Avenue Veterinary Center since 2003; she has special interests in nutrition, holistic medicine, internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, and dentistry. Dr. Seidl feels truly fortunate to be practicing veterinary medicine in a setting like GAVC. She says, “Our staff is dedicated to providing excellent care, and we get to work with such remarkable clients and patients.” Jen lives with her husband, children, and two dogs of her own – Newman the Newfoundland and Rufus the St. Bernard.
Dr. Karen Christopherson has been at Grand Avenue Veterinary Center since 1999, and she strongly believes that being a pet owner helps her be a better veterinarian. Through participating in several activities with her dogs, including skijoring, agility, disc, and obedience, she has developed a special interest in training and behavior and has a special place in her heart for shy and fearful dogs. She also has special interests in integrative medicine and pain management.
Many of the team members at Grand Avenue Veterinary Center have been there a long time, and you can tell how much they love their jobs by how cheerfully they answer the phone, the kind way they handle your pet, and their truly compassionate veterinary care. And who wouldn’t want to work there? All members of their practice have made a pledge “to collaborate with their collective skill and knowledge, engage in a respectful, trusting and relaxed environment, and communicate with humor, fun, passion, and honesty.”
