Career and Internship Opportunities at AERC

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Curious about emergency and specialty medicine? Looking for your next challenge? At AERC, you’ll find opportunities to learn, grow, and be part of a team that shows up every day for pets, people, and each other.

THINKING OF MOVING TO MINNESOTA? YOU SHOULD!

Minnesota is full of surprises—in the best way. From more than 11,000 lakes (and more shoreline than California, Hawaii, and Florida combined) to summers packed with festivals and winters made for cross-country skiing, there’s always something to do. We’re home to the world-renowned Mayo Clinic, legendary artists like Prince and Bob Dylan, and a community that shows up for each other. And yes, we’re also the birthplace of the original Zombie Pub Crawl.

VETERINARY SENIOR EXTERNSHIPS AT AERC

AERC’s veterinary senior externships are designed to be flexible and self-guided. We will work with you to create a schedule that fits your needs while also encouraging time for rest and balance during your rotation.

Senior externs gain hands-on experience interacting with patients, learning our standards of care, and engaging with clients. You’ll have opportunities to develop technical skills, collect histories, perform initial physical exams and assessments, and collaborate with our team on diagnostic and treatment decisions.

Externs are encouraged to participate in procedures and diagnostics as part of the care team. Don’t hesitate to ask questions—our doctors and staff are here to support your learning. Your evaluation may be completed by the DVM of your choosing.

The majority of externship shifts will take place at our Oakdale location, which serves as our primary referral hub. Weekends tend to be our busiest—and often most rewarding—times to be present.

If you are interested in a senior veterinary student externship, please email externs@aercmn.com. We look forward to connecting with you!

VETERINARY TECHNICIAN STUDENT INTERNSHIPS

Animal Emergency and Referral Center of Minnesota offers an exceptional experience for veterinary technician internships. An internship at AERC allows students opportunities for learning new skills, expertise, and knowledge in the technical field. Technician interns will experience hands-on interaction with the patients, learn about our standards of care, and interact with clients.

At AERC we expect a lot from our interns! Interns are expected to follow the same policies and guidelines as our medical team and are scheduled for 40 hours per week. The shifts will be representative of those worked by full-time technicians. The student will be provided with a series of checklists as a guide to learning how AERC functions and in learning the skills required in emergency and critical care.

At AERC, we feel your internship is the most important part of your training as you can now practice and reinforce what you have learned in school!

If you have any questions about tech internships, please email training@aercmn.com. Thank you!

SHADOW OPPORTUNITIES

AERC may offer shadowing opportunities for individuals interested in learning more about emergency and specialty veterinary medicine. Availability varies based on service needs, hospital activity, and other factors, so we may not always be able to accommodate requests.

If you’re interested in shadowing, please contact training@aercmn.com for more information.
“Finn was seen by oncology and then surgery to remove a cancerous mass on his leg. He was comfortable with everyone that interacted with him and could tell he was being well cared for. I appreciated that the team was clear and communicative and gave me many options, but also still gave me time to process and ask questions with no pressure. Finn may not be completely cancer free now, but he is more comfortable and healing well. I would definitely recommend AERC to other pet lovers.”
