Blue Sky Animal Hospital is owned by Dr. Jeff Johnson and has two associate veterinarians: Dr. Rachel Gierke and Dr. Alex Cermak.
Dr. Jeff Johnson opened Blue Sky Animal Hospital in 1990. His love for animals began at the family farm on which he grew up, and as a teenager, he worked at a local veterinary hospital. In 1988, Dr. Johnson received his doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Johnson studied surgical oncology for two years at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and he worked another two years for the University of Minnesota Cardiovascular research department. He also worked two years for the Minnesota racing commission. He developed his expertise in equine medicine with advanced studies in reproduction at Colorado State University and surgery in Texas.
Dr. Rachel Gierke received her veterinary medicine degree from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. She started her career at a small animal and exotics hospital in Chicago prior to joining Blue Sky Animal Hospital. She has a special interest in exotic pets and is also an associate veterinarian at the Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley.
Dr. Alex Cermak is a full-time associate veterinarian at Blue Sky Animal Hospital. He joined their team in June of 2017 after graduating from Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
Blue Sky Animal Hospital is a client-centered practice. They believe in communicating with their clients and building strong relationships. They sponsor frequent client education programs and activities so they can stay involved in their community.
