Dr. Ulfeng joined AERC as a full-time emergency veterinarian in November of 2012, but she had already been part of our team, for 5 years prior, as a part-time veterinarian.

She graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1991 with a B.A. degree, and later graduated as a DVM in 1999. Her particular area of study throughout school was in avian and exotic medicine. In her last quarter of veterinary school, she studied Avian Pathology at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. She feels this study helped frame the foundation for the next 14 years, where she practiced in private practice both with small animals and exotics of all kinds.

She and her family enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, fishing, and skiing. Other hobbies include music; Dr. Ulfeng plays the violin, and her children are learning violin and guitar. They also have a Christmas tree farm called The Newell Family Christmas Tree Farm in Scandia, Minnesota, which keeps them busy year-round. This past year, Dr. Ulfeng began dabbling in beekeeping, and she was very excited to harvest her first batch of honey!

Dr. Ulfeng has one elderly Golden Retriever named Gypsie, and a white tabby cat named Squishy Tickles, who is two years old.

Dr. Ulfeng is very excited to be part of the AERC team; the staff are such an inspiration to her to learn more, work hard, and grow in her personal and professional life.
